Young Maker’s Fair – June 4, 2016 June 9, 2016
At Larscraft we believe in teaching and building young minds. We spent weeks preparing for an event that would uphold our company’s values.
On Saturday June 4th, 2016 families from our local community attended our Young Maker’s Fair at Ricciardi’s Tree farm in Wadsworth, OH. The Young Maker’s Fair featured a variety of competitions and activity stations designed to show kids the fun involved in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics. Teams of mentors (parents, guardians, older siblings, etc) and children took part in the competitions.
The following competitions took place at the event: Build a Boat that Floats, where teams attempted to create the most buoyant boat out of limited materials; Pasta/Marshmallow Tower Build, where teams had to create the tallest tower out of spaghetti sticks and marshmallows; Soda Bottle Rocket Launch, where teams tried to build the most aerodynamic rocket out of a soda bottle and other materials; and an Egg Drop, where teams had to build the most protective enclosure around an egg that was subjected to a two-story drop. The winner of each competition was awarded a prize related to the challenge that they underwent.
Activity Stations were present throughout the venue all day. Stations included a Bubble Workshop, a Volcano Building Station, Giant Building Blocks, and an Ice and Oil experiment, and several Lego Building Stations. A 3D printer ran throughout the day, printing small key chains for the visitors.
The turnout was modest and the participants had a lot of fun, whether they be parents, children or teenagers. We believe that each attendant learned something valuable at the event, whether it be about physics, creativity, or how to incorporate learning into fun activities.
The event took place from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
